Wire hanging from o/s rear wheel (UK)

Hi,

Today I realised a wire was hanging from near my off side rear wheel. I pulled it out as much as possible, it looked as if it was coming out from behind the wheel. The wire seemed to run along the length of the car along the side skirts. It appeared to be damaged, so I cut it off. The car drives fines, stops fine and all the lights seem to work fine. The brake warning light indicator has been on for a while, could the wire be linked to the braking system??? No idea what it was, any ideas?? Thanks.

Excuse my ignorance of English slang, but I'm not sure what you mean by "off side". Does this mean "passenger side"? American BMWs have brake wear sensors at the right rear and left front brakes. I would assume this is the same for UK automobiles, but this may be reversed, as is the driver/passenger side. So, if it is the same as the American cars, then this would not be a brake wear sensor. The other sensors, at all four wheels, are the ABS wheel speed sensors. Although, if this were broken or removed, I would think you would be getting an ABS warning light. Perhaps this is the light you are referring to? If this is the case, then your ABS system will not operate correctly and should be fixed ASAP. Same advice if it is "just" a brake wear sensor: GET IT FIXED.
