1.buy fluid for diff and trans and hand pump fill jug
2.lift car up
3.unbolt refill bolt FIRST then unbolt drain plug
4.drain fluid and put drain plug back in
5.pour fluid into jug
6.fill fluid through refill plug
7.put refill plug back in
8.clean jug out with brake cleaner and wipe dry
9.repeat for second item

Is anyone else getting site not found when trying to access bwm325i.net? The site had a couple of very good DIYs, these 2 especially.

If you follow the procedure above, big chance that you will burn out your expensive transmission because it at least short of 1.75 quarts tranny fluid. So after procedure 7 above you need to follow these:
7_1. put the car up level on jack stands.
7_2. Start the engine.
7_3. unbolt filler plug.
7_4. pump some more fluid (about 1-1/2 to 2 quarts) into filler plug until it leaks back out.
7_5. Let the engine idles for about 20 to 25 minutes to warm the tranny up if the car had just not yet driven.
7_6. Move the tranny shift lever through every gear and halt about 2 secs at each gear including reverse.
7_7. Recheck the fluid at the filler plug, if fluid stops coming out then pump in little more until the fluid just slowly leaks back out.
7, 8. Follow the procedure above.

For diff. fluid change, you can follow bishop1977's procedure, but need to make sure that the refill fluid slowly leaks back out before you put the plug back in. You may not need to jack the car up if you can partially lay yourself underneath the back side of the car and reach your hand out to the diff. box. I'm not a big guy and my car wasn't lowered so I did that with ease.

Thanks. What I liked about that site is it stated exactly what tools were required for the DIY.
