Radio interference when rear window demister on
Hello all. This is my first post here all though I was helped here a couple of years ago with a problem with the final stage resistor. This time it is a problem with radio interference when the rear window demister is on. The demister works but the radio is static noise. I suspect it is because the rear window was removed to replace the trim which was damaged, and the aerial connection and heater connection were reconnected wrongly when the window was installed. I need to know where to look to find wires. Thank you.

Double check the entire rear window for any breaks in the heating material and take out the rear pillars. Inspect the wiring since the radio connections are there.

Left side C pillar (passenger side in Australia)
My E36 had a cable that loosened itself at the antenna amplifier a couple of times. Resulted in very bad AM reception in particular. Last edited by Shonky; 10-11-2012 at 05:38 AM. |

RIGHT side. See the arrow at the bottom of the antenna amp diagram? That indicates it is located on the right side of the car. |

duno if the 318 has the same setup as the 320, but the antenna is on the passenger side of the car as the trap curcuit (part #1 on realoem) is on the driver's side. i had to re-solder the internal board of the trap circuit as my rear demister wasn't working...

I'll stand by my original statement that it's on the Australian passenger side i.e. the left hand side of the car. |

If the arrow points in the direction of the car: The amplifier (2) sits on the C pillar. The wiring(6) comes out the back towards the rear window for the connection to wiring on the window. Based on that logic, it's still on the left side just like the E36 (which makes sense).
If you are basing your statement on this diagram, I don't think that's a good idea. I know it's on the left on a E36 so follows it's the same on an E46. The radio module is in the boot on the left side so makes sense it's there too (but not proof of course). Check the photo in step 3 here: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...343&highlight= You can see the window on the left of the photo and the amp on the right. Therefore it's on the left side of the car. Also: http://tis.spaghetticoder.org/s/view.pl?1/05/40/02 Enough? |

Arrow is reference to the way the diagram is "drawn". The way the digram was drawn also referenced (6) to connect to the rear window.
I agree, I'll no longer take the diagrams literally! |

I believe the arrow is in reference to the way the car is pointing/facing and it's clearly visible in the bmwfans.info links. Saying "reference to the way the diagram is drawn" doesn't really mean anything (to me at least).
Why does E46 Fanatics block links to bmwfans.info? http://bmwfans[/img] ** SPAM LINK BLOCKED ** Report this post to the moderators [img]parts/catalog/E46/Sedan/Malaysia/325i-M54/RHD/N/2004/june/browse/audio_navigation_electronic_systems/single_parts_f_rear_window_antenna FFS. Seriously, with the link blocking? Last edited by Shonky; 10-11-2012 at 08:07 PM. |

Well definitely check the connections back there at the connection to the window and as I said to the antenna amplifier itself. My E36 some how undid itself twice in the 6 years I had it.
