This is probably in my book but I don't really want to pull out that out right now. I did a search for this info but I couldn't find it.
speed sensitive volume? How do I disable this non-sense? I just got another e46. My old 323i didn't have this. I thought my radio was broken until I figured out it was changing based on speed.
You can't. The only thing you can do is turn it to its lowest setting but it forever be on to bug you. Bugged the hell out of me for awhile but now I'm used to it.
I like the feature, but initially, I found it annoying because it wasn't adjusted properly. With the factory default setting, the volume would lower too much when the car slowed down requiring me to adjust the volume. After playing with the gain control adjustment, I have it set to where I don't notice the volume change as the car speed changes.
a lot of cars have this feature... it is not just inherent to bmw... most people actually like it as it is supposed to overcome the change in road noise...
Sometimes yeah it is annoying but you get used to it after a while. Especially because I ALWAYS have my windows down I like the system to turn itself up because I cannot hear anything with all the wind noise going past the windows...
1. Turn radio off and then on.
2. Press and hold the "SEL" button.
3. Radio will display the software version.
4. Use the "****" button to go thru the settings.
5. Find one that says "GAL"
6. Use the "1,2,3,4,5,6" buttons to change the value (1-6, 1 is lowest, 6 is highest speed volume compensation)... you cannot set it off.
7. Turn radio off and then on.
This feature is bullshit. I noticed the other day my volume was increasing and decreasing while my car was parked. Im going to take it into the dealer to have them fix this. There is no way it should be doing that.
Ahh, if you had a vert you would love it.. It gets embarassing if you have your music pumping, then you roll up to the lights with it still all the way up
i personally like the speed sensitive volume i drive with my windows down everywhere so its nice so that i don't look like a fuking douche bag at the stop light with my radio blaring.
Actually you can get rid of this function. All you have to do is cut the black/white wire connected to pin number 10 of the radio-cd harness.
I liked this feature when it used to work on my old head unit, but after upgrading to a newer HU i lost the function The reason is that my old HU used pin number 7 (i-bus) to get speed info, but the newer one uses pin 10 (GAL). So if u get rid of this wire then you will have my problem, which is in your case a solution
By the way does anyone know where to get a speed pulse wire in our cars?
I don't think there is a true off setting, but you can lower it to its least compensating setting by.....
1. Turn on radio and tune some FM station, press SEL and Manual Station Tune should be selected. If not, select it. Don't do anything else.
2. Turn off your key. Wait about five seconds.
3. Turn on the key, music starts again, screen lights up.
4. Press and do not release SEL. Manual Station Tune is displayed.... Continue holding, do not release until Service mode is displayed. Usually in about 4-5 seconds....
5. Use the right scroll < > button to select GAL
6. Use preset buttons 1 through 6 to select the setting you want. 1 being least compensating, 6 being most compensating.
7. Turn off radio and key and your done.
Again, the easier way is to press and hold the musical note button (right below volume/power, the second button in the pic) until the Speed Control shows up on the display...
This doesn't work in my 1999 323i...can't even access that menu, nothing comes up.
The 1999 version of the business cd did not have a clock display, guess that was too "advanced" for that time period.
