e46 rear shelf construction (lots of pics)

Ive heard mixed reviews about this..... People who know a few things about what it takes to make this really like, buuuuuut theres always the guys who think "thats wayyyyy too much work"

anyways heres some pics of this junk

The upper portion is from a 2013 audi S4, here you see it attached using cleco fasteners

upper S4 bonded to E46 shelf using fiberglass resin

heres the underside, at the time i couldn't find any fibreglass mat to strengthen the bond between the 2 pieces so carbonfiber was used as a substitute

back to the upside, picked up more chop mat to fill the transitions from s4 to e46
you can see it somewhat start to take shape but still lots of work left

after a bit of grinding and shaping, the shelf was ready for a skim of filler
(3m gold was used, great stuff to work with)

sanded and almost ready to go, just a few pin holes to fill

PRIMER!!!!!!! with the grilles placed in, you can really see this thing starting to look alright

before and after, notice the rear headrests and those GD baby seat hooks are long gone

while all this is happening, Im installing an M3 headliner.

the finished product........
