Cruise Ship prices

Hey guys, I've never been on a cruise nor do I want to...BUT I'd like to give my parents some cash (anniversary present, they are in their 60's) so they could go on one since they like cruise ships. They are in Virginia so I assume they would fly down to Florida to take the cruise. I'm looking at a 3-day or 7-day cruise...I'd like to stay under $1000 for the both so let me know if that number is dreaming or very doable

Thanks guys!

You cant do a cruise for two for 7 days for 1000 with expenses.

Like Vegas hotels, prices are dramatically different based on timing and occupancy.

A very frugal couple could go for about 300 per day total without airfare.

3 day cruises suck. Booze cruise.

JMO but i have been on about 10 of them.

I'd imagine the cost of an entire cruise ship is going to quickly surpass your 1k budget.

OP just give them your max budget and let them choose what they want to do.

My wife and I have taken three different five day cruises out of Tampa for less than $900 each time. However, if you are adding in airfaire or hotel costs then there is really no way to get it under $1,000.

Best time to book cruises is in August, most companies run the best deals then, got this info from my girlfriends mother who owns a travel agency.

Deals can be found, booked a 7 night carribean cruise with booze and tip included for this October, with a balcony room for about $1100 a person.

Damn, OP please don't go cheap on your parents. What's another 1K or 2 going to hurt you? If you're going to send them on a cruise make sure every avenue is covered so they don't have to worry about pay and have a great time. I'm pretty sure you spend more than a grand on yourself and/or women for special occasions.

Yup, from what I've been told a balcony room is a must for anything longer than 3 days.

Also keep an eye out for credit card deals for airline miles, just got a card with 50,000 free miles, essentially two round trip domestic flights.

Not $900 per couple including port fees, tips, parking or cab, and on board expenses...

Cruise Ship prices

My and my girlfriend went on a cruise for 7 days. Excursions 5 days. Spent about $1400 with air fare.

It can be done if they cruise out of VA or drive to Florida.

Especially if they do limited or no excursions.

um, lets say that is very very very difficult.

cheapest rate is about $75 per person per day = $400 per person = $800
minimum port charges are $75 per person = $150
then you have $15 per day parking = $75
then you have $15 per person per day for tips = $150
then you have excursions, even just two at $40 each = $160
add just $20 each for 5 days of liquor, soda, photos, etc = $200

trying to cruise on a bag full of pennies = 800+150+75+150+160+200 = $1535 if my math is correct

I am really not try to argue, but I would cruise every other month if it were $900 for two.

I've had friends (I don't do peasant cruises) do 7 day cruises from FL for 450 PP for an inside cabin. You can get an even better deal if you wait literally until the last few hours before booking. I met this one lady that literally lives on a RC cruise ship....a few hours before the ship returns to port she snags a last minute deal on an inside cabin, over and over and over again.

Having said that, it will be an older ship, and a sh!tty room, but you can get a cheap room if all you want is a mode of transport and some food.

And how much did you spend on board the ship?

I rarely get off spending less than $2000 on the ship itself for 7 days for couple.

Cruise I am going on this October:

7 Nights Leaves out of San Juan
Royal Caribbean
Balcony Room
Booze and Tip included

Goes to:
San Juan
St. Maarten
St. Kitts
Antigua
St. Lucia
Barbados
San Juan

I forget the exact prices but it was about $1100 per person.

Also planning a European cruise for next May, most likely same room and food and booze package, 10-11 nights leaving out of Italy for about $1600-1800 a person.

The key is having airline miles to use.

Befriend a travel agent and book in August.

Should be fun. Good ports.

Yep, Europe cruises are relatively cheap, its the airfare that kills ya...
