Solo Werks S1 Coilovers
So I was browsing around for coilovers and stumbled upon these. I searched on the forums and could not find a single thread on these coilovers so I figured I'd post a thread on it. They seem to be another affordable coilover set that is pretty popular with the VW kids. It seems to have pretty good reviews, though I haven't thoroughly researched them yet.
http://www.esetuning.com/Solo-Werks-...-p/s1bw003.htm ![]() Just seeing what you guys think of them for an affordable "low" solution, mainly for daily driving and some spirited driving. I'm starting to think I am wasting my time installing oe sports on my e46 since the improvement is not that much....and I'm kind of getting the itch for low! |

I wouldn't put that much money towards an unknown brand, for around the same price you could buy some FK streetlines which are made by a known company that also make high end coilovers. Just my $0.02

While that is true, these are actually a direct competitor with the fk's and actually have some people choosing these over the fk's. That's why I'm torn as to which might be the better of the two.

Go Bilstein PSS9 or PSS10; for initial set up, use "4" in the front, and "6" in the back. Remember, the smaller the number, the stiffer the setting. The PSS system is universally liked by M3 and Porsche guys, because they work well, they hold together well, and they don't need rebuilding. You can't go wrong with these; that's my 2 cents anyways.

I don't know tbh, all I know is that they are competitors of the FK sportlines. They are probably pretty new though!

BTW, just looking at your site Kris, I noticed you guys have a street coilover setup for the e46 going for $440. How are those as far as build quality and ride quality? Are they reliable and a quality product, or is it something along the lines of racelands, etc.? They are really cheap and can handle the lowering needs im looking for, but Im unsure how they ride, noisy, reliability, etc.?

I have the Solo Werks S1 system on my e46. I installed them about less than a week ago so i can't really say much until they have settled. But as of right now, the ride quality isn't bad, they are a little bouncy but can definitely go pretty low. I got em from AMI Motorsports for $500 shipped so I can complain!

I'm rocking them on my '04 325i sedan. Had them just about a month/3k miles now. The ride is firmer than the stock sport suspension, but I like it. I'm just about as low as they'll go in the rear, and have over an inch to go in the front. It's totally streetable, IMO. Years back I had GC coilovers and H&R sports/Bilsteins on another 3 series. The GCs were noisy, and I ignorantly chose a spring rate that was not well suited to a DD. The SoloWerks have so far been absolutely noise free. I would rate the ride quality subjectively, as noticeably stiffer than the stock sport suspension but entirely streetable. I've driven several KW equipped E46's over the years (I'm a dealer tech) and for the commuting I do and disdain for tinkering I have when I get home, these are perfect. No noises, as low as I think I can go and still rack the car at work, with help
and comfortable enough for a DD. I've brought the car in to work twice and racked it looking for leaks or anything weird, but so far, zero issues. When they have a setup for the E39, I will be ordering a set... |

If this helps... Rear is within 1/8-1/4" of as low as it can go, front has more than 1" of drop available. I've never rubbed with it set like this, but I'm certain that with my driving/commute roads and the wife occasionally driving it, any lower would be not good for the bumper up driveways, etc... Like I said above, zero complaints so far. I would absolutely buy them again. There is a warranty, but I don't have the paperwork in front of me. I will see if I can find the stock height pic for reference, but it might take a while.

Here is the only pre-SoloWerks drop pic. It's not a good picture, but it shows how high the factory sport suspension sits in comparison. I did not mention that I'm running 5mm spacers up front. This is with the 18's and OEM Michelin's. I'm not absolutely sure they are necessary, but no doubt the perch and tire were close to making sweet love. The 5mm spacers give me plenty of room. I think it looks better, too.
