This is my first e46 and I had been hearing weird creaks coming from the rear of the car
It would make a clunk sound when putting into gear. And also would get vibration during low rpm acceleration. When I got it up in the air I saw the back mounts on the rear end had actually ripped the metal they were fastened to. Just wondering if any one else has encountered this and what they did to fix it.
Hi
I'm new to the forum also, I have a 2000 323Ci.
I have the same problem. Mine is on the left side. I have searched the forum for a hour now with no real answer. Is this covered by a recall. If not can I just have it welded up or does it take more extensive work?
I do all my own work but I do not have any type of welder. I have a friend that is a retired welder and a muffler shop that does welding also. I just am not sure if I should trust them with this type of repair.
I am sorry to ask someone to repeat themselves but I could use the help.
Thanks
All depends on how much damage has been done. Small cracks can be welded up and reinforced but if there is extensive cracking or if the mounts have torn completely through then the floor pan needs to be replaced and then reinforced. There was a settlement to a class action lawsuit regarding this problem but the period during which BMW agreed to cover the repairs has passed. Some people are still getting it fixed or getting BMW to at least split the cost. Best bet is to see what BMW offers you and compare that with what a shop that is experienced in this repair can do for you.
Plenty of threads here, just search "subframe class action" - here's a couple for starters:
Thanks guys for the help. I really appreciate it. I believe the mounts have pulled free.
