Changing my leaking VANOS return line. Found two DIY's. One just lists the torque specs for the banjo bolts (32Nm) and no sealant, and the second list the same just with sealant on the banjo bolts. Is the sealant necessary? If so what is the best sealant to use (RTV)?
Thanks guys! I ordered new banjo bolts along with new crush washers for each end. Just didn't want to mess it up since the oil system is crucial to the engine.
No sealant, the proper way to reuse the copper washers if you have to or want to is hook them with a an old coat hanger and heat them until they are cheery red, then let them air cool. This anneals or softens the copper. You can heat them with a propane torch, a gas stove burner or possibly in the gas grill in your backyard.
Just make sure you have a copper washer on either side of the banjo fitting regardless of what you found when you took things apart.
Could you link the two DIY's you found for replacing the VANOS line? Thanks
