I need to troubleshoot a metal sounding rattle at idle only. Hopefully tonight I'll inspect the pulleys, idlers, DISA, VANOS among other things. Plus the CEL came back on so I'll have to investigate that.

If I don't have the time I may just drop it off at this independent BMW/Porsche/MB shop in my town that I recently discovered. 20+ year BMW Master Tech started his own shop and does maintenance and performance. He also races and maintains an GT3 Porsche 911 Cup Car.

Today it wouldn't keep an idle by itself and would die, no power and the DISA made a horrible noise. I didn't have an opportunity to drive clear across Charlotte to go to my BMW dealer to pick up an OE part so I had to get a Dorman unit from Napa that was a couple miles from work. I keep simple tools in my trunk and I replaced it right there in the parking lot.

I'm very lucky that I replaced it today because the pin and flap literally fell out when I pulled it out. The bottom of the flap was broken so it was indeed the root cause. I saved myself from a catastrophic event in doing so.

I'll keep an eye on the quality of the unit but in terms of workmanship and visual quality I can't complain. If I drove the 15-20 miles to BMW for an OE part its safe to say that I wouldn't have made it...and for what?

Excuse the poor photos from my old G3. My Nexus 6P is at Huawei for warranty repairs/replacement.

Same thing happened to me! I'd highly recommend the aluminum flap kit for your new valve as well. It's a quality kit.

I'll likely do that to be safe.

Oil changed last night.

Liqui Moly + Mahl filter @ 115xxx
Rotating tires will need to be over the weekend it was 10:30 at night and I was over being outside.

Had to use some 2x4's for ramps to get it a little higher to get my oil pan under the car after jacking it up.

I drive a lot....120 miles per day.....so that accumulates some rock chips. I need to address this ASAP.

Thank you!

Pretty much. No changes up front and only a roll in the rear.

I'll eventually do gloss black kidneys but it's not a priority at the moment. Thanks for the offer though lol.

Thank you very much. It's been my favorite DD to date. The color matched trim is a love or hate for some but I like it a lot as it stands out from all the normal E46 Non M's. Plus I think it makes it seem a little more modern vs black trim.

Clean barrels are happy barrels.

Rotated tires at 116xxx. 7K miles on wheel/tire setup. With -2 degrees of camber the tires are wearing really well with no visible or measurable irregularities.
