I'd be happy to work with you. Do you have a budget and specs in mind?

Thanks man.
My budget is $1000
I want to try something different with this rig.
- water cooled
- mid range gfx card ($100 - $200) single card is fine unless I have a reason to get 2?
- 2 storage drives (1 ssd 1 hdd)
- i5 or i7 if I can stretch for it
- ram, whatever is fastest I guess
- PS whatever is good
- optical drive, at least DVD but I probably don't even need one
- full tower case, I like the first black tower you posted in your original post
- mobo, whatever is best
- I already have dual monitors, mouse, and keyboard
- I am not a gamer but will probably play LOL once in awhile
- am I missing anything?

I was gifted a Lenovo motherboard, i7, and 8gb of memory. I have a spare R9 270x and CX650 so I'm going to pull the storage drive from my media PC and use these guts as my new media player. I want to house everything in a bare bones assembly that shows the working parts so I'm hoping you guys will throw some ideas at me. I've seen the builds where everything is mounted on a board, but that takes up way too much real estate. Ideally I want a small footprint and go vertical with the components.

Mount it on two sheets of polycarb, one horizontal base to hold it all up and one vertical that you mount all that stuff to. Make sure you cut a hole in the vertical one where the hot spots are to prevent melting, cracking, crazing of the polycarb.

I like the idea of using two sheets to mount everything vertical, but I'm thinking something more along the lines of a nice stained wood if I decide to go that route. I also have access to a fairly decent 3D printer for only cost of materials so I'm considering drawing a housing up and having it printed.

Are you set on an enclosure? I've seen some cool "open air" builds like this one that came out pretty nice:

You can do a nice wood base and a lexan mounting plate so it's all see through then.

Be careful with 3D printing for only cost of materials. If you are using opaque/cheap materials like ABS then it's fine but when you get to the clear and more exotic materials, it can get quite expensive in a hurry especially for something the size of a computer case.

Another option would be to draw up a unique design for the backing plate and light it with LED's. You can get the design CNC machined for pretty cheap. A CNC mill can also etch into the PC backing if you want.

Definitely open to the idea of an open air build, that's what I'd like actually, something that displays at least some of the innards. I like that guy's design but I want something that will match my AV equipment: gloss black plastic/aluminum/stained rosenut

The nicer of the two machines I can use is a uPrint SE Plus that uses ABS. I also just remembered that I have access to a machine shop that will build anything I want for a little over cost of materials. I could use a particle board or some other kind of engineered wood for the structure and use a nice stained veneer to cover it.

There is some new lian li stuff. Kind of big when trying to fit full size parts, but looks like it's meant to hang on the wall.

Well it looks like the MB is cooked I was under the assumption it was working but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm going to snag a spare power supply from work and check that it's not my power supply causing a problem, but if if the board is fried what are some good inexpensive boards? Keep in mind this is for a media pc, so it doesn't need to be/do anything too fancy.

Anything AMD has to offer is already cheap compared to Intel... so, any of them.

So a little change of pace from $2k+ systems. I'm growing fond of this Corsair 100R case coupled with the Seasonic M12II EVO power supply.

*please note; none of these systems are intended to crazy by any means. They are what the client wanted, or could afford.

System 1; The red rounded cables were all I had at the time, not the greatest match.

System 2; Getting more comfortable with this case and wire management...

System 3; The latest one really starting to flow on the cable side (imo). Not sure how I will do better from here with what is provided.

Just finished this up. Customer wanted a purple theme so I went with it. He didn't have a huge budget so I had to keep things somewhat simple.

No GTX 1080 FTW? Why the Sammy 750 EVO over the 850 EVO?
What are your thoughts on GIGABYTE mobos? A Fry's employee told me to stay away from them because they are always being serviced, but then again it was a Fry's employee who told me that...
