I feel bad for this guy and the crappy luck he's been having with the car. Nothing like the other boy racers on Craigslist.

Car looks great too. Would be a nice pickup for a savvy DIY-er.

Exactly, a gas gauge that isnt responding could be an easy fix ( ifs its just the sensor) a tire is a tire but if you can get your hands on a good used transmission and know some people, this would be a steal.. that is unless it was neglected untill 130,000m

Judging by the car lot he bought it from I would guess that the car has been neglected. It could be a steal except that he's asking $3000 for a car with no transmission that only has a book value of about $4500. I'm willing to bet it needs a new cooling system and suspension among other things on top of the transmission as well. Nobody in their right mind should pay over $1000 for it if they want to make out okay.

Not necessarily. I bought my car from a wholesale dealership. Needed some work like just about any higher mileage used car, but was serviced at BMW for most of its life and the PPI performed by my friend who is a BMW master tech concluded it was in great shape.

While I think it's reasonable to wary of a dealer such as that, I wouldn't write it off immediately. Look at the photos. Nice exterior, original wheels, not molested...these are signs which would prompt me to look further into the car.

The maintenance items you list apply to most all used E46's with that kind of mileage and a low mileage transmission can be had for well under $1K.

hehe I bought mine from a wholesale dealership as well, what a nightmare. This was when I knew nothing about e46s. Im pretty much done with everything that needs to be fixed. New 135i oem wheels are on there way.

And they book the car @ $4500??.. jeeze prices are going down

I think I was lucky. I actually had some squeaking noise and SES light a week into ownership. Took it back and they covered the replacement of an EVAP breather valve along with the idler and tensioner pulleys. Left them a positive review and would buy from them again.

Yeah I cant blame the wholesale dealership, i mean it sucks they dont really dont tell ya whats up with the car, even tho i know they inspect it. The only ses light that occasionally came on was my fuel mixture to low, a quick clean of the MAF and no codes sense. *crosses fingers*
