Front springs/shocks came off while lifting!!!

See picture... both sides (front only, left and right springs/shocks came out while lifting.).

NOTE: this isn't my car. It belongs to my teenager son. He didn't tell me about the noises while driving.

I need your advice and suggestions how to repair them. Thanks.

looks like you just need a new top strut mount? youll just need to pull the strut out and rent some spring compressors

That's amazing, you should post that on r/justrolledintotheshop. But it looks like the upper mount failed. Not a huge problem, just get a couple of lemfoerder upper strut mounts cause you should do both now.

I don't see the holes in the old mount for the studs.

I think you can ask whoever installed those struts. As pointed out it looks like it didn't have studs to begin with but the installer proceeded with the install anyway.

Curious to see the top of the mounts in the engine bay.

I suspect mushroomed and ovaled out holes. I'd suggest these https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...46-51717036781 as a backup, cheap either way.

Whoa lol it just fell out like that while jacking the car up? And like others said I don't see the studs on the mount. Post a pic of the top of the strut tower

Edit: just realized the mount isn't even there lol I'm assuming it's still attached to the strut tower I guess?

Yeah, it looks like the bearings completely separated from the mounts. I have never ever seen that before in over two decades of BMW ownership.

Good lord...that crazy! Among other things, I'm really surprised that the tire is not showing some excessive/abnormal tire wear!

Yep. That's exactly what happened. Did this car have cheap aftermarket mounts?

If that's like that, I'd hate to know the condition of the rest of the stuff. Your son was one big bump away from a disaster. You should get new struts/shocks and mounts all the way around. Get reinforcement plates while you're at it. Make sure your balljoints arent busted out and loose as well. Inspect all critical components and fasteners!

Looks like the bearing came completely apart separating... leaving part of the strut mount attached to the shock.

Yes, you're correct, the mount is still attached to the strut tower.

I just ordered many suspension-related parts for my son's BMW. I should get them by next week. I will take a picture of worn-out (or damaged) mounts and post it - at the same time I replace the parts. I'll post the picture next week.

That's what I was thinking- but I've never seen one come completely apart before, either.
