Wanna make money? Do something that adds value. That's why I got into the field that I'm in, apart from I enjoy it.

Perhaps that's the difference, whether some individual/company is actually creating and adding value for which they are justly compensated or simply extracting value out of a system by too-clever manipulations and cunning. I suspect far too many, though hardly all, in the various financial fields are practicing the latter even as they try to portray it as the former to lend some thin veil of respectability, both to others and even themselves, over what is basically just unscrupulous, avaricious greed. This might sound like some quaint moralizing to some, but I do think the difference is profound as are the long term consequences. One builds a solid, robust and long-term economic foundation and structure for both an individual and a society whereas another creates a hollow edifice, a bubble economy, resting precariously on a foundation of sand that will inevitably crumble and collapse as we saw in 2008. As I say and will continue to say, only one entity “makes” money, the U.S. mint, everyone else “earns” money by creating real value for which they are, ideally, duly and fairly rewarded. |
