Unhappy Help! Oil leak!

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and this is my first post.
Recently I've been having issues with my '05 330ci leaking oil. I just got under and realized that there was oil leaking down from the front skid plate. As I looked closer I noticed that the steering rack was covered in oil. This weekend I'm going to get a better look, but I wanted to know if anyone has had similar issues/solutions.

Thanks!

Help! Oil leak!

Check the filter housing. Common seal failure...

I think we pretty much all have had an oil leak. The OFHG leak is very common as mentioned above. A good way is to really clean up the areas with a degreaser then give it some time and keep checking back to see the source of the leak.

Help! Oil leak!

Thanks guys! Now I have something to look for when I go under. I'm going to try to change some seals, since this Miami heat will deteriorate anything. I heard the VANOS seals are also notorious for having this issue, but I don't think that's what could've caused this...

It sounds like the oil filter housing gasket to me. I found a new Bimmer mechanic whose price to R&R it is $300, including an oil service. He did some other work while he was there, including the transmission service, and I am very happy with his work. No more oil all over the floor of my garage, and no more putting in a quart of oil every 1,000 miles!

Find the most forward and highest point that has oil on it.

Power steering return hoses are another common leak and can look like regular oil.
Also oil pan gasket can leak too.

Get a flashlight and peek down behind the oil filter housing at the block, if the OFHG is leaking, oil will collect on the side of the engine block.
