Question 330ci Muffler

Hey guys, I recently bought my BMW and the previous owner had staright piped it. It sounds way too loud and I was wondering whats the best exhaust to put on from the cat. back. Something on the cheaper side would be great, but it can't sound really bad. Maybe OEM if it is not too much money. Thanks in advance.

Installing the Magnaflow 14815 (I believe that's the number) muffler is an easy way of quieting it down.
It's a popular choice that gives you a sporty, but civilized sound.
There are soundclips on youtube.

Sounds pretty decent. Will I lose a noticeable amount of power with this? And any old exhaust shop should be able to weld this on right? Thanks!

You won't lose any power. The straight pipes only give negligable increase way up high in the powerband.
If you still have dual pipes, they just have to use a y pipe to weld it in.

downside about this exhaust is the Y pipe, some say youll cause bottle neck some dont...and most old exhaust shop should be able to weld this on. magnaflow has been on this planet for dozens of years and it's mostly put onto trucks. you won't lose power with a muffler...you'll actually gain around 1-2 hp or even more.

cost me around $300 w/ muffler and Y pipe and labour to get it all welded on.

i have this muffler and honestly it sounds like stock in idle but roars when going over 3k rpm. anything under is just quiet, i can literally pull into my street 3am going in first gear @ 2.5k and no one will wake up.

All I have is cats, so will just this muffler be enough or do I need a center muffler as well?

you're fine, most e46 restriction are located in the cats anyways. the CAT on e46 is located in the header and there are 2 additional resnator afterwards. i removed both resnator and only have a cat with the magnaflow 18415...pretty much the same setup as you when you get a magnaflow muffler welded on and it's sounds very crisp and deep. not too loud.
