My first thought is you bought a Used diff as your replacement, so it finally wore out. I think if you had a brand new rebuilt diff using a fresh/new ring & pinion, we wouldn't be talking about this today.

At this point there's less chance of you keeping your Bimmer for a long long time, so I'd suggest looking for another used diff to re-install.

Quite true Rob, it was second hand therefore I guess life expectancy would not have been as it would new. I will have you know that I am keeping this bimmer for as long as I can, I have my headaches with the car but man I live driving this thing!
