Chirp Noise in cabin

Hello,

My 2002 325xi has started making an intermittent chirping sound that is very noticeable from the driver's seat. I have searched the forums and the only possible relevant answer was the blower motor control resistor although there was no final outcome.

My Observations:

The sound is not affected by engine speed or road speed.
It can be present when the AC on or off.
It can be present when the blower motor is on or off and is not affected by blower speed.
The sound is only audible in the cabin, seemingly originating from under the drivers side dash
The sound can be heard when engine is off/key on.

Blower speed is consistent and never varies (other than intentionally) so the control resistor seems unlikely if I understand how it works.

Other than this the car is very healthy, no codes, no oil consumption, no drips, no leaks, no errors.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

It can still be the blower motor. Only other thing that can make that sound or similar is the ECU control box fan which is located by the footrest

ECU box fan. Unplug it and see if the problem is still there.

OP does it sound like this? This is from my car although it hasn't happened in a while which leads to me assume that the fan is dead.... I guess I should replace it asap ugh FML

That's exactly the sound. ECU fan. Makes sense since it occurs less frequently when ambient temp is lower. Can you give me a quick hint as to how to access it?

Do a search. Someone already did a DIY and I think it even had pictures.

Never hurts to check! Actually remember seeing someone with a carbon monoxide detector that was chirping: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=807764.
