Help... Car will not move!

My car won't move... It sounds terrible! Several popping noises from the right rear wheel ... Motor is fine, no codes, no leaks, no noises. Trans will not go into R or 5th now...

Car description: 2001 325i manual sedan e46 218,000 on odometer but motor was rebuilt 40,000 ago. 245/45/18 all around.

Any suggestions? I'm a single woman, battling cancer and on limited income. I can't afford a goose chase. Please advise the most cost efficient remedy. New used Tranny? Clutch? Bearing? Axle?

I appreciate any help I may get. Thank you for reading.

We will need more information. What was the car doing before this? You say the right rear wheel is making noises but the transmission won't go into 5th or reverse? Are you sure the noises aren't coming from the transmission? Does the clutch feel normal? Does the gear lever slot into each gear normally? Do first through fourth engage normally? Can you look under the rear of the car to see if there is a problem with either of the rear drive axles?

Does the clutch petal have a grinding feeling when depressed?

Have you left your parking brake on for any long amount of time? (dealing with this now and the car wouldn't move after sitting for a few days, new parking brake parts are in the mail )
