My Ride: 2002 BMW 325i
No acceleration at all 325i

I have a 2002 BMW 325i with 200k miles. A few days ago while on the highway my car stopped accelerating & the gear light with the exclamation point in the center came on. I quickly pulled over, shut it off, & read a bit about it. Someone recommended starting the car in neutral which got rid of the light with the gear & !. However, the car still won't shift into any gear or accelerate at all, no check engine light or anything. I've had an on/off problem with the car not shifting into reverse for a while now but its so uncommon that I haven't treated it yet, a mechanic said that was caused by a transmission solenoid. I was wondering if that could have played a role in what happened today or if anyone knows anything that could help me out.

Can you start and rev, but not get into gear? Do your brake lights come on when press the brake pedal?

The first thing that I would do is check the fluid level.

Definitely change the transmission fluid and filter, if you have not done so already.

Ultimately, you probably need a transmission rebuild, but you could very well go on without one for months / years by just doing the above.

Yes, it starts & revs, but it seems to stay in neutral. & the brake light works on the passenger side but i need to change the wires on the driver side.

What does it feel like when shift into reverse? Any resistance?

No acceleration at all 325i

Sounds like you got no fluid in it

I've also seen sheared input shafts do this never seen a sheared input shaft on a Bmw tho
