My Ride: 2001 325CI Coupe
2001 E46 325CI Now with 330 Engine - How to re-flash ECU

Hi All,

I have just fitted my 325CI with a 330 Engine, However when you put the 330 ECU in the car wont start, but when you put the 325 (original ECU) the car starts & drives although it does seem very rough & don't really want to drive it.

Does anyone have any ideas? I dont want to start to download software etc... as im awfull with computers

I still have both ECU's - I have phoned lots of remap specialists, and know one seem to be able help, I have phoned BMW who really dont seem to care

The ECUs are both the same pre 2003 M43 i think

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Ian

Likely you have issues with the EWS and keys?

EWS have to be married and key has to he configured to work with EWS.

Do you have the car that the engine came out of? Likely you would need the EWS, lock cylinders, keys and possibly even the cluster to make it work easily, otherwise you are going to need to deal with software programming and/or reflashing.

Assuming the DME's are the same, you may be able to flash the DME with the programming for the VIN on the original car?

But I have no idea how the EWS will play into all of this if you flash with the VIN from the original car, there are other modules that have VIN coded into it them so there may be some other unusual behaviors?

There are folks on the the forum here that have performed complete engine swaps and can likely tell you what is required.

Cyberkaa is one that comes to mind.

TerraPhantm may be another good source.

Buying the dme was a waste. You won't be able to align it with your EWS. You can flash your 325 DME with 330 software though
