Rear Window Rattle

I've had a decent rattle coming from my passenger rear window area for the two months I've owned the car. I know I know, there's a ton of other threads on this issue already, but I think my issue is slightly different. The rattling gets worse when music is played, but oddly it gets better if I throw the fader all the way to the back (or front). The rattling is worst when the music is playing equally throughout the car, but the rattle only comes from the rear passenger area. That particular window is having some trouble going up and down which might have something to do with the rattle. Could that be my issue (as in would a new regulator/new motor/adjustment fix my problem?) Or should I just go with the silicone spray on the trim like everybody else seems to be doing?

I have not heard of that specific rattle symptom before, related to the music playing. However, if your rear window is not working correctly I would fix asap it because it will more than likely fail when you least want it to! That is when you are out somewhere and want to leave the car locked, the window will simply drop down! It is most likely to be the regulator cables on the way out. At least you will then have the window functioning correctly and it may fix the rattle!

Yeah I totally agree with that. School's got me swamped but once I wrap up exams I'll take it to the shop for the window. I'd do a DIY but I have no idea what replacement parts to get.

Take a look at the "realOEM" website. It gives a complete parts list for BMW cars. If you enter the last 7 digits of the VIN number (that's the very long number on the rego docs and inside the hood) then realOEM will bring up the exact model and build date for your car. You can then look at the parts catalogue by section (engine; gearbox; bodywork etc) and you will find the part number. You can then go into the Pelican Parts website and order it using the part number from realOEM. Hope that helps. There are a number of write ups on how to change out the regulator.

UPDATE: I took my car in because the window has been sticking a lot now, and the mechanic lubed the window up in five minutes and boom, like 80% of the rattle is gone. So to anybody else with an annoying rattle, I can comfirm the solution of simple lubrication. The other 20% of the rattle is probably from my ghetto speaker install I did, but I'll be fixing that soon. Thanks anyways for the replies.
