Custom muffler setup...thoughts.

Hello all!

So yesterday my friend and I jacked up the M and yanked the muffler off (not literally). I was planning on getting something different for the sake of having some noise. Now, I've done my research and watched countless YouTube videos and I gotta say, getting the exhaust to sound good (deep tone and not so raspy higher up). Without a muffler, these things are LOUD. I really dig the burble during decel and the deep tone that's down low. But after 4k...it's loud and raspy...almost a bit ricey.. you know the story.

Now, I know you can't get much out of a muffler (except lose a bit of the tremendous amount of torque these cars have!1!1!!). But instead of going straight for a bolt-on (for the future, maybe a Scorza or Remus or Rogue..)
I want to try experimenting with some "shelf" mufflers. Magnaflow, Borla or Corsa. Hell, Flowmaster or even Cherry Bomb! I want to see what these can do the exhaust note. Obviously, it's a bit more work but I like experimenting and this seems like a safe and engaging experiment.

Haven't decided what to go for but I'll figure something out.

Let me know what you guys think! Ideas are welcome!

Thanks!

Go for it. Exhaust is all personal preference so it only matters that you come out with something YOU like.

So last week I took off my stocker and put on a custom section 2-3. Muffler delete in a sense. Just cuz i wanted something different. It is very very loud. City driving it can be a handfull but the sound just cant be beat at WOT on the highway. Also sounds great downshifting and engine braking. Throwing a Gruppe Rasp pipe on shortly just to take away a little bit and make it not so obnoxious at low speeds. But like everyone says. Its preference. I always wanted the deep grumble. But ive given in. Click image for larger version

here's a thread about removing the baffles and routing of pipes in the stock muffler. most run a resonator in mid pipe to add deeper tone and subdue some of the rasp. I'm sure you can tweak sound to your liking somewhat by different setups.

Looks very nice Virus. I don't like the bends either though, too bad you didn't use mandrel pipe.

Ya its whatever. It was a free setup given to me. I figured going from stock to modified stock for free was a nice changeup. I figure when the time comes I now have a 2nd muffler free setup that I can weld or add whatever I want to.

The answer is BOOST, gives the greatest deep tone sound you are looking for.

Actually it was just what I truly believe. My favorite sounding exhaust was on one of the HPF Stage 4 wide body cars in Florida. It was the HPF exhaust that was customized with a magnaflow muffler actually. Nothing like the deep tones but weren't over bearing like some exhausts.

OP you can try a section 1 rasp eliminator, a few different choices on the market. Seems to clear up a tremendous amount of the rasp in the higher rpms.

Your earlier comment was waaaay off in left field and I was just bugging you about it.

Adding an AR20/25 in section 1 or getting a premade rasp terminator section 1 is definitely what OP should do if he comes out with a muffler set up he likes but finds too raspy otherwise.
