Can I use a different Valve Cover?

Hi guys I have an '03 325ci (10/02) with part# 11 12 7 512 839, but I was wondering if I could use an identical looking one with the part# 11 12 7 512 840 instead?

Which valve are you referring to?

If you have the M54 engine then 839 is the correct part number, probably superseded by 840. I can't find the 840 part number in RealOEM or BMWFans. Quick searches indicate it may have just been an alternate number for some reason, but it is perfectly fine to use on your car (as long as your current VC is truly 839)
