Car stalls

Hey there. I have an automatic 01 E46 that I bought about 9 months ago. It was all fine until recently. My service engine soon light came on. When I cold start my car it will shake pretty bad and the rpms will drop and rise from 1k-3k. I'll let the car warm up a bit before driving and when I drive and stop at a stop light the rpms will occasionally dip to below 1k rpm and the car will die on me.

I know next to nothing about cars. Anyone have an idea of what it could possibly be? I know my info is very vague so if you have any further questions I can try to answer them.

The first thing you need to do is have the OBD scanned for the codes and post them here. I know at one time Autozone provided that service for free and may be worth checking out. Good luck.
The 2 happiest days of a BMW owner's life is the day they buy it and the day they sell it.
