Power Steering pump beggining to fail? Help

So I have run into a problem and from what I researched it leads me to believe my power steering pump may have failed on me. I have searched the forums but haven't seen or read anything quite like this. The steering is not stiff & the noise occurs whether I'm driving or at a stop. This is a link to a video of what I am dealing with. The knocking sound occurs when I slightly turn the wheel to the left or right. My fluid is topped off also

Have you checked your pulleys. My power steering pump shaft broke and I didn't have noise like. I hear almost a knocking sound. Does the sound get louder when you turn.

Yes as I turn the wheel the knocking gets louder turning left or right. From what I can see the pulleys are running fine but I haven't yet taken anything apart to see if there's any play in the pulleys. My time is limited as I have to go to work and pull 12 hour shifts all week and school until this weekend. My next step will be taking everything apart.

Get your belt off and check pulleys if the shaft broke on water pump it will come right out of the front of the pump with ease.

Thanks, I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction before I take it to a mechanic. I'll look to take the belt off when I get off in the a.m.

So what was the outcome? I developed the exact same noise two nights ago. Literally exact same as in the video. 01 330CI

Did you check your PS fluid levels?

I had a different noise shortly before my PS pump failed. Figured it was a pulley and a few days later the pump completely died (shaft broke and could be pulled straight out).

Mine didn't throw the belt. PS assist in the car failed while parallel parking in NYC. Drove the car home at the end of the night and put it up on jack stands. The belt and PS pulley were still in place.

After loosening the bolts, when I went to pull the pulley the entire shaft came right out.
