My Ride: 2000 328i
2000 328i Project Update Progress

My first BMW
328i SAL E46 Sedan, Feb 2000 MFG
185,000 miles
Green with Tan upholstery
M52TU MS42 Engine Management System
GM Steptronic Automatic Transmission
Purchased in October 2014

Work to date
1. Restored headlight lens
2. Replaced both front control arms including bushings
3. Replaced all 4 jack pads
4. Replaced jack
4b. Replaced Expansion tank cap with Stock BMW...probably a bad idea...1.4 Bar Better idea?
5. Drained and changed "Lifetime" Tranny fluid with Dexron VI and replaced Filter
6. Changed oil and filter to Castrol 0-40 Full Synthetic
7. Replaced taillight lens
8. Replaced rear door window lift.
9. Replaced hood pneumatic lifts.
10. Replaced plastic belt tensioner (on a trip)
11. Removed intake manifold in order to replace plastic heater pipe (original leak)
12. Replaced CCV tube on top of intake manifold.
13. Converted secondary air pump plastic tubing over Exhaust manifold to steel (brake line) so that it would not melt.
14. Replaced inner fender on driver's side (contains outside temp sensor).
15. Replaced Spark Plugs with NTK BKR6EQUP from Advanced Auto (BMW Stock Plug)
16. Put front of car up on ramps...repeated cooling fluid addition...it took a gallon!!!
17. Installed Mishimoto Intake Silicone to replace leaking stock part.
18. Have OBDFusion with Bluetooth.

Current Problems:
1. IKE inoperative....ABS and Airbag lights only...and back lighting. Recent Problem
2. some steam from tailpipe...possible headgasket leak
3. Original Fuel Pump
4. Occasional no Reverse.
5. Starts and runs pretty smoothly.

Plan:
1. Ordered iSaddle BMW Scanner 1.4.0 from Amazon including cable for under hood connect. Hopefully, I will be able to understand the IKE problem with this.
2. Plan to get compression tester and fuel pressure gauge from Harbor Freight to determine if Head Gasket shot and if fuel pump is adequate.
3. Hopefully will be able to determine if Fuel pump is working properly with the new scanner?
4. Buy 1.4 Bar Expansion Tank Cap

Wait - your car should be level when you look at the stick determine how much coolant you have in your system...did you overfill?

Actually, I think I underfilled on the flat. It did not get all of the air out of the engine. That's why it took an additional 4 qts on the incline. It is slightly higher. I will need to drain a little, but not much.
Thanks for the feedback!
I love my ride also...just having a little difficulty with all of the stuff at the front end.

Were the cracks in the rear? I think I remember seeing a reference. Haven't checked yet.
