M54B30 Engine Swapped Into a 2004 325CI HELP!

I'm new to the forum here. I originally posted this in a different category and didn't realize it. I've got a 2004 325CI 5 Speed. Lost Compression in Cylinders 2&3. I'm wanting to swap in the 3.0. I have a few questions though and can't seem to find definant answers. Is there a particular year of M54B30 I should use? Can I use the Complete B30 engine or would I need to use some B25 parts? If so what do I need exactly? Is all the harness and sensors the same? I've seen some say yes and some say no. I've read the DME would need reprogrammed with the B30 Software, how much would that cost and who does it? Would it still need reprogramming if I did a performance chip tune like SharkInjector, PowerChip, or Dinan Software? Any and all help is very much appreciated.

Step 1
Buy MS43 ecu from ebay or anything in working condition
Step 2 read forum how to reprogram
Step 3 Get the engine (dont matter which year i think all the same from 1999-2006 M54)
Step 4 swap the engine plug everything in ,plug in ur reprogrammed ecu )
Step 5 read codes before start , clear them , start the egnine run for a while , read codes again to see if oyu missed anything
Step 6 If you reprogrammed ur ecu as it says on the forum you be golden)) if you cant do it you gotta ask someone to do it , and since software is free i think bottle of beer will do it , it only takes 15 min for basic stuff )))
Step 7 Enjoy

Read biggest MS43 thread and download software , get laptop and that cable FTDI i think ( if you need help i live in NYC but indiana its kind of far away 5 hrs i think ( i would do it for you easily )
and you can use complete b30 engine you dont need b25 parts , just keep old stuff untill u finish the car incase something goes wrong , because parts are interchangeble in this engines ( not pistons rods and crank and head i think too) but accessories are) except MAF, MAF on b25 is 3 inch and B30 is 3.5 or 4 i think

Also get some headers ))) that be a good thing)))

I've already got the headers and I'm looking at a 530i this weekend to buy and take the swap! I greatly appreciate all of the info and I will definitely ask if I need some guidance. I live in a small farm town and I own the only E46 around here so I have no one real close by to ask so I really do appreciate it!

I hate to ask...but what is the MS43 ECU. I am doing the same swap..Putting a 3.0 out of a 2001 330CIC into a 2001 325CIC.Is there anything else I should steal from the 330 besides just the Engine and ECU??
Thanks again,
Ron from Wisconsin

you can tune ms43 ,like take that 2.5 liter program and change it to a 3 liter program ( because if you just take ecu from 1 car and slap it on the other one it wont work )
I think you only need the engine

So if I can't have my car's DME reflashed with the 3.0 software? But if I buy the MS43 DME it can be programmed to work etc. if I use that will all of the car's functions work properly. I daily drive this car. I just want to make sure the windows will work and the keys and fob will work. I keep reading contradicting things. I just DONT want to get it wrong lol once again thanks for all of the input.

I dont have the re flash...but swapped the 2.5 for the 3.0 three weeks ago...using the 3.0 intake and a 3.0 MAF with the 2.5 program and it runs incrsdibly good....no hesitation and gobs of power all the way through

the difference is that the 330 software has the correct values for throttle body, and bigger injectors, and maf? and if i did a swap and used a 325 intake and smaller injectors, even if i had a b30 (i know dumb scenario) i would be better off using the b25 tune? basically what im curious about is if the tunes differ by the different maf sensors and TB control?

Hi there, new here and in the middle of this same swap! I work for a BMW dealer and having it swapped in-house! (Special case) 2002 325ci -> 2001 330ci swap. Have the full engine from intake to exhaust. Want to put it in and flash the ecu to a 3.0 tune and have no idea where to start. Where to get the software? And cable?

On the factory ZHP software, the only things that are changed are the speed limiter and rev limiter. Everything else is identical bit for bit.

To flash your 2001 325 with 330 software, use your dealer software to manually input 7571613 as the software to flash (I'm not sure of the exact procedure with the latest dealer software)
