New Exhaust Gaskets. Louder?

This seems completely bizarre to me. Could my exhaust actually be louder after the exhaust gaskets were replaced?

I just had my Guibo, CSB, and Trans Mt. replaced today. When I picked it up they told me they also had to replace the exhaust gaskets (exhaust must be dropped for access). As soon as I pulled away I thought the exhaust sounded louder. It sounds great, but could it actually be louder?

Is this the sign of a problem? I am about to take the car upstate for the weekend and don't want to deal with any problems on the road.

It they disconnected the vacuum line to the exhaust flapper it will be louder, mine seemed to when I did the "golf tee mod".

is that a problem? i might even like the way it sounds, but will it effect performance, safety, or throw a code?

I can't think of anything related to exhaust note/tone/volume that could stop your car, so I wouldn't worry about driving it anywhere.

It could perhaps just have been the acoustics of the area you started the car up in that made you think it's louder (indoor garage/enclosed yard vs parking lot/street).

Hopefully they didn't create a massive exhaust leak. When a gasket becomes blown out (old, cheap, or damaged during install) it can make the exhaust seem louder. It normally sounds like a flutter of air, if you haven't heard before.

Good thought, but I think we can rule that out. The car is consistently louder during acceleration. The shop parked it across the street next to a small park. It sounded the same during travel through the city and in my underground garage.

They charged me for two new gaskets so I certainly hope there are new gaskets on there! It's a deep resonant sound. There is no sucking or flutter sound present.
