Top slashed! Questions about replacement.

Someone broke into my car (06 330Ci) on Saturday night. Fortunately the waited until after the storms had passed, so there is no water damage to the interior. Unfortunately, I need a new top, and the insurance deductible stings a bit.

I have an appointment with the insurance adjuster tomorrow morning, and I would like to be prepared. Can anyone offer any advice on replacement top options? There are probably OEM and aftermarket options, and I want to be certain that the car remains pleasant to drive, regardless of weather. Thanks to the giant hole in the roof, I can see the construction of the factory top, and it's really nicely made. There are several layers of insulating material, and I would like whatever replacement is installed to be of equal quality.

In addition to any information about actual part quality, any advice regarding installation is appreciated. Geico offers a lifetime guaranty on work performed by certain shops, and they've scheduled me with one in my area (CollisionMax). However, I'm wondering if I'd be better off going to the dealer for something like this. Personally, I don't have a lot of faith in the dealer near my home, but maybe by using them there would be some alternate recourse, should there be a problem?

Thanks in advance!

Go to CollisonMax and tell them you want them to use OEM replacement parts. Tell them you don't want aftermarket stuff and to get the replacement parts from the dealership. Since insurance is picking up the tab, why go cheap? Replacement of the top should run something like $1500 or more just for the labor anyway. Hope you ride is sorted soon. Good luck.

According to the Geico rep, they will only use OEM parts for top replacement, which was sort of a relief. There's always a disclaimer that says, "If we can't get new, we may use remanufactured", however I *think* they can get new, because I could if I wanted to take this project on myself.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll post about my CollisionMax experience when I get my car back. IN TEN DAYS!!!
