My Ride: 2002 BMW 325i
2002 325i motor/transmission into a 2002 330i

So I have a 2002 325i that was recently totaled (sub frame buckled) and the other driver had no insurance and I only have liability. So I found a 2002 330i with a blown head gasket for cheap, so I'm wondering if it's possible to put the engine and transmission for my 325i into this 330i?
If I can I'd like to keep the engine I have right now, the previous owner did a lot of work as put a lot of money into it with aftermarket upgrades so it runs amazing and is like a dream come true for me being 17 lol.

I'm new to the mechanical world and still learning so I don't know much but if it can be I'm going to be doing the work with some help so I just need to know if it'll al fit correctly.
Thanks

It's definitely possible a complete bolt in swap. Be warned tho you going to get a lot of hate

Probably smarter to part out the 325 and use the money to pay a mechanic or someone more experienced mechanically to fix up the 3.0L engine or look for a running lower km engine at a junk yard

If you going to go through the effort of a engine swap it wouldn't be worth putting the smaller engine in the better car

Your 330i has a ZF 5hp19 transmission and your 325i probably has a GM 5L40E, if both cars are automatics.

I would recommend you use the 325i M54 engine in your 330i with the existing 330i ZF transmission. You dont have alot of auto repair experience under your belt right now. Get your car on the road first and then you can go on to learn how to repair your 330i head gasket.

Then you can fix the 3.0l HG and then reinstall it at a future date.

Before you reinstall your 325i motor change out the following:

OFHG
Rear main seal
Plastic heater water pipes under your intake.
CVV
OIL PAN GASKET

Sorry I forgot to mention, my 325i is a manual transmission and the 330i is a Automatic. And if at all possible I want to keep driving stick, of course if I have to I'll take one for the team. And also I'll have help from my brother who's a mechanic he'll be teaching me and watching me so I won't be alone with it. Thanks so much sorry I forgot about the transmissions that probably didn't help lol

Then you are going to do a manual swap. Just search here and see if you want to go thru with it all. Drive shaft, shifter, pedals, clutch, wiring, electric fan conversion and a few other bits.

If your brother is a mechanic, just repair your HG. You will love the 3.0l ovet the 2.5l
