Smg pos problems

I recently bought a e46 m3 convertible the problem i was having was it is not able to shift manually and auto shift kinda worked with a selection of only 2nd 5th and 6th gear or reverse I had the computer reset and smg codes read only code that came up was 2 internal faults

I go to bring it back to the shop stalls out while I'm doing about 10mph then dosent want to start so I leave it then it finally starts after an hour of sitting but now when you put it in gear it flashes zero and either stalls and jolts the car foward or if you press the gas it will move then slip out of gear than catch while still flashing zero if put it reverse it just grinds and stalls and jerks the car

I have also had the yellow cog the whole time

There isn't many parts that will make this happen and the only one I think that can do stuff like this is your smg pump, it's most likely on its way out. Your best bet is just getting a new one or used but be carefull with those.

I can't really tell you about that, mine had issues like this and when I'm driving from time to time it would go into neutral and won't go anywhere with the gears. If you want to go cheaper route you can change the salmon relay on the pump, they are like 20$ and it won't hurt if you do it, but I can't guarantee it will fix your problem.

You obviously knew about potential SMG issues before buying the car so you should be fine.

Check the compression springs, I believe there are 2.

This is a bit like trying to repair a laptop by listening to the POST beeps and watchin the HDD light but not opening the screen.
How long was it working properly?
What were the internal faults?
What are the codes now? The cog light won't come on if there are no codes.

I have my old bmw e46 m3 smg pump for sale if you need it. I can give you a 10k mile warranty on the part since it is used. It was tested before it was removed (swap to manual) and built the right pressure. Feel free to PM me. Best of luck!

Ok get codes - see whats happening. Hydraulic pump assemblies can be repaired for much less than the complete replacement price. Other items can cause these issues so look before you leap.

Once again is it showing any codes?
Is it the same in reverse? How about a 2nd gear take off?

When was the last time you did the gearbox/clutch adaptations?

Have you run any diagnostics at all or is this going to be entirely guesswork?
