2004 E46 M3 Lost It's Rasp

Hi, I drive an e46 M3 and its been a dream so far, but recently I was driving one day and my engine all of a sudden became quieter. Now instead of rasping at around 2.5k RPMs it rasps at 3.5k and the entire car just sound muffled. It rasps on start up and the first times I reach 2.5k RPMs, then it slowly dies down and stops rasping. I currently have aftermarket headers with cats and a vacuum leak. What could be causing the change in exhaust/engine tone and disappearance/muffled rasp?

Hey I still don't understand how a vacuum leak would cause a change in exhaust sound, it makes the engine sound weak aswell. Also what is that picture of Haha. I feel like it is something within the engine pistons or something

M3's do not have the amount of potential vacuum leaks that a standard E46 would have. I would not expect vacuum leaks to have anything to do with the OP's problem because he is likely WOT around 3k RPM and a vacuum leak would have VERY little impact during WOT operation.

Im still stumped, my father who used to be a mechanic suggests its my aftermarket catalytic converters not functioning properly causing the muffling sound and lose of rasp.

Bump Anyone able to help? Could a clogged catalytic converter be causing this problem? THe car has catless headers with an aftermarket catalytic converter placed a little back in the exhaust

gonna take a shot in the dark and say your exhaust valve timing is off. Probably DME making adaptations? I honestly have no clue, LOL!
