Question power steering pump fails, then works

On saturday my power steering pump went out, I was told by shop it tested "contaminated". My steering was harder and it was making an obvious bad noise so i believed them that it was broke. Turning the wheel at all when stationary or moving slightly made a loud noise from the pump area. So they told me bring it back monday (today) when the part would be in, but this morning when i was driving to class for some reason it quit doing all of this: no noise, no engine light, no difficulty turning. I drove more after class and no issues so I told the shop and they said good, no charge, and are going to return the part.

Has anyone experienced this or have an idea why this would happen? I've read things like replacing the power steering reservoir as the screen can get blocked or so, don't know if previous owners ever did this or changed the fluid. Thanks

Also the problem started while I was in the middle of parallel parking, when I was going from all the way right to all the way left.

I did the turkey baster fluid flush...

I bought three bottles, emptied reservoir, filled with fresh...turned wheels back and forth to stops...did that three or four times. Then topped off with fresh. Drove for a week...did one change...

Anyway, I can see to the bottom of the reservoir and if you can't time for a very easy flushing...over time.

I never had it fail and then start working again. Check your belts too (I wonder if you got something on belt or pulley and it just wasn't 'hooking' up to pulley so well.

Also pulley is plastic and I've read recently that they crack...doesn't seem like that'd fix itself though. Maybe a hard rain got it wet enough that it slipped when you wanted to steer?

It's on it's way out man, should have just replaced it then. However, you can try flushing the fluid in the meantime.

I checked my ps fluid and noticed that the shop added some since it was low when I brought it in to check the pump. Since it was probably too low before, could this have been my problem and then fluid being added what fixed it? It was almost an instant change from good to bad, then from bad to good.
