nealfromnz, i made it! It was very difficult and took me over an hour but i made it!
Thanks bud!

I used something similar.

But bloody hell the camera i installed was really bad!

I tried three different

http://www.ebay.com/itm/170-Night-Vi...RXGHoc&vxp=mtr
This is the one installed. Really crappy and very narrow image. 170 degrees image my a**.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Night-Vision...cAAOSwzaJX9KKR
This one was the best but still not so good. It had the widest image.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/170-Degrees-...EAAOSw9eVXXsQ6
Next best one. Similar to the one above.

I run one like the second. It's annoying that they all say e46 yet require trimming to fix. It didnt clip in either and require a bead of silicone to secure it. It has worked for 4 years though.

Wireless Camera?

Any thoughts on using this camera to eliminate the wiring hassles?

Well, yes, but that is a wired camera. I was hoping to avoid a more involved installation procedure by going wireless (except for the power cable).

OIC, then you need this:

But I heard the reception could be spotty.

I would NOT get the wireless camera thing. It will most likely kill your wifi connection since its at the same or close to the WiFi frequency. Using your phone as hot spot will become unreliable.

Had a wireless video set in my home, made my Wifi network disappear.

Found this on ebay, camera in your licence plate holder. Cool thing is you can also adjust the angle of the camera:

That looks good, but it's a Euro plate mount. Not for USA.

My Ride: `04 M56 Touring
Just did my Touring.
i didn't modify the camera housing, I modified the license light opening.
Had to open up the long side about an 1/8th of an inch, and pretty much cut the original bucket away except the heat shield.
I have a factory tv tuner and Nav, not dynavin eonon alpine etc so I was going to have to cut the rca end off anyway, and I used a 12" ziptie with the cable taped to it to get thru the "python boot" tourings have.
I used a switched power source in the hatch to power the camera so it is nearly instant.

Picture quality won't win any Oscars, but it does the job.
