Hey guys, recently I installed the genuine bmw auxiliary cable, and followed the instructions that they came with perfectly, and it seems where they want you to drill the holes and mount the wire, causes the glove box not to close because the handy bmw flashlight charger spot gets in the way. So I just left the cable loose in the glove box which is actually more convenient for me. Anyone else have issues with these instructions? I looked on youtube, and someone did the install, but had the cable mounted in a different spot inside the glove box. Check out my pics below, hopefully you can see the issue I'm talking about..
I've always wondered about this. Is it seriously convenient to have an auxiliary cable in the glovebox? Isn't it annoying if you want to, oh I don't know, change a song?
Maybe I'm wrong, but I've seen pics of auxiliary plugs installed below the radio (in a disused button slot), in the coin tray (under the armrest), and in the armrest itself. All of those seem like better locations. (I DIY'd an iPhone connector inside my armrest personally.)
I have my mp3 player on the passenger seat or by the shifter. I can close the glove box without damaging the aux wire. Aside from all that they have blue tooth adapters for the aux that you can just keep in the glovebox.. no wire needed. So at the end of the day, the glove box option is better and more discreet.
Personally I ran my cable through the sunglasses holder. As a bonus I tapped the multi disc changer to swap between bluetooth and mp3 so I don't have to run a cable but it has that option. I love the aesthetic of the stock head unit over a modern one... keep the car looking original.
I ran mine to the cubby under the climate control (maybe thats the sunglass holder ??). I have never understood aux's in the glovebox. I also agree with Gunsnbacon on the stock head unit looking the best.
