Is HPF M3's really reliable???

You mean for hkalavi? He joined in 2004, waits FIVE years to make his one and only post in 2009 and then disappears. He obviously never got an HPF kit.

So, who did get a kit in 2009 and how have they fared over the last three years?

I think the answers should be fascinating. Anybody?

Things have broken but nothing related to the HPF upgrade.

I think the OP was talking about getting stuck somewhere, broken down because of a failed HPF component like a failed sump pump.
Or a feature not working like the meth system due to failed wiring or failed meth pump. Not that these things are meant to last forever, but have any failures happened before they should have or did they result in a tow or series of tows?

That is what I THINK most people mean when they talk about something being reliable.

I would not include items failing like stock axles or OEM clutches because the owners have not upgraded them to match the increase in HP. That is not the fault of the kit. Any items that might fail because of increase in HP should be reinforced or replaced with a specialty component.

Reliability is sort of subjective. It is a difficult question to answer sort of. You now have a LOT more parts, so that right there increases the odds of failed components.

If you are constantly chasing problems and the car is always in the shop or your garage, then there is a reliability issue. Occasional problems and even the odd tow can be chalked up to price to pay for super high performance.

Bdave, yeah I never posted much on here, didn't realize that was frowned upon... But previously had 2 E36 M'3 and 3 E46 M3's and was seriously considering an HPF kit on my 2004 M3 (now sold to a google employee).
Bought a 997 Turbo and modded that instead without ever looking back hence my lack of posts on here....

Its actually been Over 3 years....for the HPF Kits S54 official Release and YOUR ownership and Install of it.
right?

I am for one an Extremely Happy customer. 3 years of savings, had my stage 2 initially installed by Lutz Performance in April 2011 got the kit re-furbished, Re-installed and Upgraded in July 2012 to the new pt 6766, open dump, HPF in-tank fuel pump and more...... Flew in from AFGHANISTAN to portland ( 17hr flight btw) and Kirk picked me and my Daughter up from the airport @ Midnight!

very few shops would do that for there customers but kirk did it on a SUNDAY!

I agree with most of what Dave has said aswell. Reliability is subjective.

when speaking of the Kit, i think its unquestionably reliable. years and over 100 customers to attest to that but with that said No Kit is 100% Perfect every single time.

now when we step up to the Built Motor in the stage 2.5 then its another ball game of power and another shop in the mix. i don't think the OP was talking HPF Built motors i the stage 2.5 and above.

now the state of California is a whole other story.
