I got a new thermostat, thinking that was what the problem was, as that was what the code said, so I replaced it. I still had no heat...... and my engine was still running cold. I got a new thermostat (under parts warranty on the other) and now it seems that the engine is running cooler than it did and I still have no heat!!!! WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!?
:banghead:
20-30 after you have done it once already.
I found it difficult to get my big arse head and hands around in there whilst laying on my back with my head in the passengers floor board.
Also.. to the OP.. if it was your thermostat.. and your car never got to operating temp.. especially hot enough to provide 75F temps.. you would be running rich as heck all the time. Leave the engine components alone and change the FSU/FSR (called two different things, same unit.)
my car was blowing cold air before I changed mine. Just figured they guy can't loose by changing a $50 part.. he's tried almost everything else.
A lot happened here while i was gone today!
I had thought about changing out the FSR but didn't know if it would solve my problem or not, so I let it be for the time...
Someone said my connection is bad....? Well I would like to believe that, however, today, in 37-40 degree weather the car almost the whole time I drove (100+ miles) essentially stayed in the '12' o clock position. However, I still had no heat.....
alright so drove around last night for a while with heat, cut off then back on, still had heat. I am convinced that my heat works only when I have low coolant, which my coolant light is on right now. My bet is a leaking expansion tank or a leak somewhere since I can smell burning coolant most of the time... This just keeps getting better and better..................
he simply touched the water pump. Unless this man has the touch of God, which I don't think he does as it seems he can't fix my Mercedes to save his life, his touch did nothing.
I did let my car sit last night and started it back up this morning and had heat, left it for about 3 hours, came back, had heat.... Another 3 hours, came back, you guessed it, NO HEAT.
I don't want to take it back to anyone just yet to have them guess around with what it 'might' or 'could' be, which is what my local stealership told me, that a I needed a new thermostat a day AFTER I put a brand new one on myself.....
Ive had this happen on two of my e46 bmw`s,,, very well could be your problem also,, for some reason there would be a air lock in the heater core lines and no heat,,, on the lower inside driver side strut tower there are two hose lines that run into a valve,,, I had to remove one of the lines and flush it with a water hose to bleed it back,,, no more heat problems... I found this out by googleing,, and It worked for me..
So after about a week and a half in the shop for diagnostics (yea right) they come back and repair/replace my heater sensor and my air duct sensor to the tune of about $300. I'm not too upset, a fair price to have EXCELLENT working heat! However, when I go to pick it up........ I start the car in the indy's parking lot and the DSC and BRAKE light are illuminated yellow..... This is strange, well, simply because that wasn't like that when I dropped it off........ I'm under the impression the dash had to be removed to install one or both of these parts, my question is, could the mechanic have unintenionally screwed something up...? I'm taking it back up to him tomorrow AM to see if there are any codes thrown, or if he simply just didn't connect something the right way.... Anything?
i had the same problem on my e36, i changed the temp sensor, then i found out my heater core sensor thingy, that looks like a pair of boobs, that was done, changed it, then flushed my rad fluid, it was a bit better, but after driving for a while i needed more rad fluid, it was too low, and problem solved, it was the funniest **** ever.
ok ive been reading what you all have had to say on this no heat issue, mine just started doing this on tues, i was driving to work in the snow and sleet (im in minnesota ) and i got to the stop light by work saw steady steam from the front of car but no smell i opened the hood when i got to work it was all looking good no wetness or odor of coolant. the next day i warmed the car up temp guage was at about 12 had no heat held throttle at about 1500 and i had heat but as soon as i come to a stop instant cold air no lag or cool down instant cold air. now i flushed my radiator and did my water pump about a year ago have had no problems and fantastic heat untill a few days ago where it was getting worse and worse from heat when i was moving to heat if over 3k on highway to no heat at all, coolant level was good but a little low added maybe a 1/4 quart had a big air bubble then i could get heat again but only if i was on the throttle. now leading up to this i had an erratic internal fan it lopped intermittently but had done that for a while im assuming its not related, now im a body tech not a mechanic but can handle most work on my own im just scared im looking at a head gasket which i cant afford it would be by by bimmer hello 800 dollar beater untill i can can pay off what i owe on the car i will mention its got 184k on it ive put 65k of that on the car myself
