Howdy All from Texas!
My 14 yo son had worked all of last summer mowing yards and general lawn services for a few businesses in our community. Thought I had done well in teaching him the importance of a hard days work and investing his revenue wisely. You can imagine how proud I was when he approached me the week of Thanksgiving and said that he had done some research and would like to purchase a car to fix up and to learn a few things prior to getting his drivers lic. (in two years) (now that's thinking ahead). Now, he had talked about old mustangs, camaro's and the like, as we all did at his age. To my surprise, he showed me a pic of the car he was interested in. A clean 2000 BMW 328i, REALLY? I have been a mechanic all my life (44 now) and I had never looked under the hood of a German built vehicle. He had done his homework and had actually already contacted the seller prior to my knowledge and had cut a deal. He told me that he only needed my permission and my signature to close the deal. Needless to say, by the end of Black Friday HE took ownership. We have spent many hours TOGETHER in our shop getting his ride whipped back into shape from years of neglect. From countless vacuum hoses, CCV, Coolant pressure tank, to struts and shocks, to adding CFFL Angel eyes, new stereo and speakers, headliner, to O2 sensors and IAC motor cleaning. We have really enjoyed our time together making this a great little ride. And learning that this BMW is really a great package of engineering. A little difficult to diagnose sometimes but, real easy to understand.
