I am going to install new anti rattle rings. I know I have to remove the piston bolt/cap that retains the bearing using an impact wrench.
But when I install the piston bolt what torque should be used, and is it possible to tighten to a specified torque? If I use the impact wrench to tighten the bolt will it not be to tight?
Thanks, but that doesn´t answer my question. I know I should put it in a swivel vise and use the impact wrench when puting it all together again but it says nothing about the torque to use. I am afraid my impact wrench (490Nm) will destroy the whole thing if it sits to tight in the swivel vise when I torque the bolt.
If you get lost, on YouTube there's a guy named "the50skid" that has an awesome video step by step on how to do it! I just bought the vanos repair kit, I plan on doing it next weekend.
Personally no - I see mechanics use these torque sticks all the time to put wheels on pneumatically and owners complain they can't get the bloody wheels off again.
Do it by feel. Get it snug (seated firm) then give a 1/4 turn
I used an electric one to zip the caps off and on with the piston in the vice. Make sure you properly assess the bearings on the cam shaft before reinstalling.
This is probably the only part of this job I would use an impact.
