I searched on different threads and could not find an answer to my questions so here i am asking you guys for help. So my symptoms are wheel shaking at 60+ MPH and clunking noises when going over bumps. But car does not pull to one side when braking or anything. What could it be control arm bushing or control arm itself?
The shaking is usually wheels not balanced right or not at all. Also a deformed tire will make it shake. The noises you will have to lift the car and inspect it, it could be something as basic as a swaybar link with play.
How many miles are on the car, how long have you had, any records of any of the suspension being replaced? Bushings generally need to be replaced every 60k or so miles, and control arms every 80-100k or so. I didn't experience the wheel being shaky at 60mph+, but I did hear the clunks so I replaced the control arms and bushings at about 104k miles. Made a hell of a difference. Your bushing may just be shot, as it doesn't pull when you brake, unlike mine. My control arms were indeed shot, and the bushings were gone.
Its at 170k and no records of that and I've owned it for 2 months. And well im getting new tires saturday so maybe that will solve the wheel shaking but as goes for control arm bushing i think I'll go under the car and strart looking around.
I think you found your problem. I'm guessing the aftermarket wheels are bad quality and not meant for the car. This makes them more likely to bend and they are likely not hub centric either which means they wobble at speed. Your suspension is likely shot anyway, but the wheels are a good place to start.
Balancing the wheels will be fine as long as they're hub centric, and as long as they don't have a giant bend in one, which the tire shop will tell you about. At 170k, replace the control arms and their bushings, I guarantee if they're original, or were replaced at 100k, they're shot again. Your rear shocks and struts are probably gone too, but get the control arms and control arm bushings replaced first.
Well im getting 4 new tires on saturday installed so they will balance the tires and i will order new set of control arm and bushing. And i was thinking about changing all 4 struts in spring and rear springs
At the very least, get hub centering rings. They are cheap and should take care of your problems if you are getting new tires balanced as well as new suspension components. Remember to get an alignment after installing the new components to BMW settings.
