Help please e46 m3 smg

Hi all, no idea if I am posting in the right place because I am new and took me forever to even figure out how to post a message.
I have a 2004 SMG M3 (e46), and have been experiencing some problems with the SMG. About a month and a half ago I was driving in hot weather in heavy traffic and all the sudden I see the smg light come on that looks like a gear, but the car drove perfectly fine and i pulled over and turned the car off, then back on and it was still on. After a little while I turned it on again and the light was gone, weird. Now just a couple of weeks ago I was driving the car and both the Service Engine Soon light and the SMG light came on and the car would switch into neutral while driving and it would not immediately go back into gear, it would take a couple tries. When I came to a stop, the car would go into neutral and then i would slide the stick over to put it back in gear and would say it is still in neutral. The next day the SMG light and engine light was off. Just yesterday the same thing happened while driving the car hard in 90 degree weather, the SMG light went away but the service engine light was still on and the car has drove fine for a day. Could it be the relay? She has 92k miles which seems like prime time for a new pump. I bought the car with 72k miles and there was already a Salmon Colored Relay for the SMG in the glovebox, not sure if the previous owner had it just in case or if it is an old one. Should i try and put it in? There seems to be a correlation of heat and the gearbox screwing up. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Swap the salmon relay - but there is a fair chance that its an old, problem one. Recommend you always have a known good one in the car.
