Thumbs Up CSL Roof

So since OEM CSL roofs are now discontinued. I was waiting eagerly for the roof made by Evolve to come out. It looks pretty good in pictures and everything, but the thing that I couldn't get over was the price. Their MSRP was way more than OEM ever was. Not only that, roofs made by other manufacturers for other BMW models were still cheaper.

So after being disappointed, I decided to try and contact Challenge Engineering. They make CF roofs for the E90 M3 and F10 M5. From the roofs that I've seen and some of their other CF stuff, the quality looks great.

From my conversations with them so far, it looks like they are interested in making it, and so I decided to make a thread to register some interest.

It looks like the MSRP will be about $1495 (which is even cheaper than Evolve's GB price). If there is enough interest, they might even do GB pricing + free shipping.

Here's a couple of pictures of the roofs they currently make:

And some of their other CF work:

Don't forget to do this properly, you guys will need to weld in the OE stiffening support/brace that goes in place of the stock sunroof on the CSL. I'm sure anyone interested is already aware. Not sure how much that brace is. Looks like a good quality piece though from the photos posted. GL with group buy!

yep they'll need the "roof bow" but that's only like $65. it's the same used on all coupes without sunroofs. surprisingly the expensive goodie is the new headliner, several hundred. again the same as the M3 or coupe versions without sunroofs. so us non-sunroof coupes have already saved a lot. slightly less work to R/R. but the job because of the front/rear glass and sealing is the most work.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.......

I am tempted.........

But I don't know. Not sure if I've got the expertise (or tools) to install something like that. If I had the instructions I could, but getting the right tools would be another issue...

There are a few threads around which kind of show the process but I think most use a reputable shop to install. I do seem to recall a thread where someone installed their own but their pictures were all broken=(

So it looks like the roofs are about ready for production. I just need to collect a 50% deposit from everyone and then put the orders in. You can choose between 1x1 or 2x2.

The GB prices are:
1-5: $1495 shipped.
6+: $1395 shipped.

Keep in mind that retail is $1495 + shipping (which is like $150)

For those that are waiting on fit/finish pictures. I am told that the very first roof (mines ) should arrive in 3 weeks. So once it comes in, I'll be supplying the pictures.

Anyways, I'd like to take deposits from those that are ready to pay.

Thumbs Up

Been a long time, and all the interest has been on the m3forum. But I figured I'll update here anyways.

I still don't have the roof in my hands yet. Severe weather in the Midwest had suspended operations for FedEx for awhile. I think they only just resumed today. Hopefully it moves a lot more before the next wave of bad weather comes.

In the mean time, Challenge did take a couple pictures of the roof before they sent it out to me. And here is a couple that I'm able to share right now.

Sorry I couldn't provide anything else substantial. My roof keeps getting delayed and I know you guys have been waiting for updates forever too. Hopefully this eases some of the anticipation lol

after a lot of delays from FedEx, it's FINALLY here!!! Sorry for the amount pictures, and some of them are probably not even focused. But I was too excited. I'll be dropping it off at the bodyshop either later today or tomorrow.

Here's some pictures lol I tried taking some macro shots as best as I could.

The roof looks gorgeous. I can't stop staring at it lol It looks like the OEM roofs that I've seen. But I can't be too sure now since I haven't seen one for awhile. But it's incredibly hard for me to take photos that could represent how beautiful it looks. Definitely needs to be seen in person to appreciate.

As for when the install would be finished. I think my car is supposed to be done in 2 weeks. I'm getting other stuff done to it right now so yeah. I think this would be the last thing they install probably.

somehow i doubt that. just like how sedan VCSL trunk would have sold like hot cakes. then when it came down to it, everyone wanted it, no one wanted to pay for it. hence why we never got one. used to be a sedan owner back in the days lol

then again, i know like 2 people off the top of my head that i know would buy it if one was available. but it wouldn't meet the minimum required to even produce the roof.
