Steering wheel trim: wrap or paint?

I have...well I own every E46 wheel currently. The facelift sport wheel is currently my daily wheel. The trim looks horrible and I can't stand it. I have paints and sand paper. Should I be painting or wrapping. And which paint or wrap should I use? I've seen wraps to get the M3 satin trim, but I want to restore the OEM black of both my M3 trim and facelift sport trim.
