2002 325ci unlock help needed urgently

hi guys,

so this is my first post and i have searched the forums for help already but cant find help for the convertible on this one.

so the battery in keyfob died and have been using the key manually to lock and unlock car for 1 week with out any issues, went to go to work this morning and turning key now does nothing.. so im thinking the door something in the door barrel has snapped..

been quoted 896.96 for parts, labour and including vat, for new key, and door lock mechanism.. which is a lot esp at this time of year..

now obv need to get a new battery for the key and get it coded from the igintion, (watched a few videos) but my problem is that i cant get into the car.

if i can get into the car i can order the bits from ebay and fix the lock at home.

now i know usually u can use a big easy or similar tool to wedge door open, and pull door handle but this is a convertible, doing that will just break the glass. .

the boot opens, so there must be a way thru the ski hatch.. but i cannot find anything on the net to help me get through there.

suggestions would be helpful. thanks in advance.

the car is a 2002 model 325ci convertible..

The ski hatch has a simple "press down" latch at the top in the centre to allow it to be removed. If you can open the boot, then you can unlatch the sub-speaker door and swing it out of the way (I have an HK system, yours maybe different) I would then get a thin / flat plastic pry bar and see if you can push it through at the top of the centre of the ski hatch panel and then try to depress the latch by lifting the pry bar and levering the latch down and push on the top of the panel at the same time. Good luck!

hi there
thanks ok i think i understand what u mean by the second part of the instructions, will give it a go in the morning. oh was reading other posts re the same situation and is it true that i need to press the centre console unlock and pull the door lever? as that may be another issue.. the ski hatch is tiny and im still trying to work out how i would reach the door handle from there in the first place, unless i could borrow a tiny person, a really tiny person.

anyone reading this with one key fob and one key and only driver door lock, get a spare..

Right now the easiest solution would be to break the door lock cylinder off the car with the smack of a hammer, then unlock the door with a screwdriver. You can't just pry back the window a bit and either push the lock button in the console, or pull on the door handle from the inside. When verts go into lock down, they go into lock down.

Then get a lock delete and a new key (or solder in a new battery if you're inclined).

Have you called a locksmith or towing company to see if they can open the car?

The door lock mechanism is known to come apart, there are rebuild kits available.

I'm assuming holding the key turned doesn't lower the windows...
