2002 325i drivers door not latching in cold

I have a 2002 325i sedan, this is the first winter having it, and I started having problems whenever it was below freezing. The driver's door will open, but then will not stay latched when you close it from outside (door just hits the car and comes back open). if you open it, get in and pull it shut the door will close, but not fully (dash still tells me the door is open). I tried adjusting the door lock (with motor) actuator, still, didn't work replaced it, and still did not work. Have just replaced the Bowden cable door opener, and the door is still not working. Any suggestions?

The latch assembly needs to be replaced. You can find the part number here www.bmwgm5.com/e46_actuator.htm

I would try some white lithium grease, could be just a lubrication issue since it's a new assembly. You can pick it up at any hardware or auto parts store for less than $5. This will last much longer than something like WD40

I have a W123 Mercedes that the drivers door used to bounce back when you went to close it, very annoying. I replaced the striker thing but it really came down to fine adjustment before I could get it to thunk shut like it's supposed to.

I live in western Massachusetts and I had the same problem when it got really really cold "like -10F" and after searching for a while I found I had moisture in my mechanism and or to much grease moisture was getting in from the drivers side window at the car wash I only found this out when it wouldn't open one night "I work second shift" and I got desperate so after dumping pretty Sark water down the door finally did the trick and when it finally opened I found water dripping from the drainage holes in the bottom of the door steamin .. long story for a simple adjustment of the window alignment and cleaning ALL of the grease off with electronic cleaner and rags then a liberal coating of lithium spray-able grease viola problem solved cost. Bout 3$ and an hour and a half
