Cool Major problems no start/ no air bag / car accident

hello everyone,
this is my first post on this site. i have never signed up because ive always found the answers to my problems in the posts in the past. anyways, i have a 99 323i with 83000 miles, i bought it with 73000 from a dealer ship in queens ny. i still have the car under a 3 star plus warranty. i got into a car accident on xmas (guy slammed on his brakes after a green light to make a quick right for gas) where i damaged my radiator housing, front right fender, headlight and the cars hood. the air bags did not deploy. i took it to a body shop and they fixed the car it looked great. last friday (2/20/09) i was driving home on the highway and hit a deep pothole i couldnt avoid and my drivers side door and curtain airbag deployed. the traction control came on and the battery light started blinking. i thought i cracked a rim (i have m6 wheels on the car) when i pulled over and got out to look at the car i found that there was no damage. the rim and tire as well as the body was fine. i pushed the doors air bag back in and continued to drive home being that i wasnt far from my house and the car seems to be ok. about 5 minutes into driving home a light came on next to the (D) on the dashboard where the cars gears are shown. it was a circle with an (!) inside that looked like that. the battery light was still blinking and the car was losing power. i pulled over and the car died on me. i called some friends and bumped the car home after a jump didnt work. i had it towed this morning to a repair shop and they told me i needed a new started but they would not work on the car because it was in an accident and the airbag in the steering wheel was missing. i called the dealership and they told me that they were not responsible for the air bags deploying in the car because i hit a pothole. im thinking that it could have been the 1st accident or the bodyshop who is responsible for the airbags deploying? also when i bought the car the steering wheel was in tact but very soft as if it didnt have an airbag inside but ive ignored that until now. im f$#&ed because i still owe money to the dealership for the car and i work monday thru saturday and dont have time to take it anywhere else. i need some input....opinions? im in a jam and i dont know what to do being that this is the 1st (and hopefully last) car that ive gotten into a car accident with and im at a loss. the bodyshop that fixed my car is owned by a friends dad. i know they didnt do anything wrong intentionally so what should i do? what do you guys think went wrong? help me out

the side airbag deploying over potholes is a common problem, search up a little on the matter and get in touch with BMWNA if you have to.

and the (!) next to your gear selector pertains to the transmission, have you tried putting the car in reverse to see if it will work? you might have gotten the No Reverse problem common on early year automatics.
