Anyway, did you require authorization from BMW NA to do the fix? Any info you can give to make this easier for me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

They state that my car has to be currently registered in a sulev state i.e. CA and that the warranty is void otherwise. This is complete and utter BS as other fanatics have had success with this in non-sulev states. I just need to talk to the right person at BMW NA, but who is that person?

IMO, You're going to have a very difficult time getting BMW to honor the warranty with the car registered in Utah. As mentioned before, the car must be registered in one of the four states already discussed. Someone posted the actual wording which should be found by searching the forum. Your best shot may be asking the dealership to consider asking BMW NA for a one off "good will" offering requesting a 50 % discount on the labor. If you've been loyal to the dealership (and you ask nicely) they may go for it. Good luck.

Print this out and take it to the dealer:

I would also see if you can dig up the warranty booklet that should have come with the car. If it lists any specific exemptions, then you might be screwed. If it doesn't, bring that in and point it out to the dealer and BMW NA.

OP...stupid question but can you transport your car to California and get it repaired at a BMW dealership in California instead?

Update

I got a hold of a different supervisor at BMWNA, her name is Jodi. She's the person to talk to!! I contacted the dealership again and my SA said he'll get an answer from the manager tomorrow and he's confident I'll get it fixed under warranty. I'll update again tomorrow.

The car would need to be registered in California. No. OP, glad to hear you feel like you are making progress. They will likely offer you a discount but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Smile Update:

I just got a call from the dealership and BMWNA has officially authorized the repair!!!

No loaner yet, but I should be getting one here shortly.

Here's the deal guys...if you are given ANY trouble with this procedure, CALL JODI AT BMWNA, HER EXTENSION IS 7697 AND SHE WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU!. Do not talk to Bobby -- she'll straight up deny your claim.

I was expecting this to be an enormous hassle, but it turned out to be quite simple once I got a hold of the right person.

All said and done, I am still completely blown away that this design made it into production. Insanity.
