I bought a bee-sting antenna off eBay for $20 delivered. It came with an adapter kit to suit a variety of cars, very easy to fit. Just unscrewed the old one, screwed the new one straight in.
Because it's short, I thought the reception may have been worse.
My vert is an 05 and came with the Mk IV nav unit & digital TV module, so I figured I would use the TV reception as a benchmark.
Surprise, surprise, the reception actually improved - more digital stations available than with the long antenna. I even got a clear picture on 31!
I checked the thread on the old antenna, and yes, it was showing some signs of oxidation. Maybe that is part of the explanation.
