Want a BMW pickup truck? You'll have to keep waiting

”description of the image or title here”

Despite BMW's chief rival Mercedes-Benz announcing a forth coming pickup model, the makers of the Ultimate Driving Machine won't be heading in that direction. BMW has confirmed it has no plans for a pick up of it's own, saying that despite the high volume of pickups sold in the US and other markets, it doesn't fit their DNA.

“You can do it but then you cannot be BMW. You have to be a different company, but this company is not ready to change from the ultimate driving machine and the ultimate successful company in luxury, to a mass manufacturer who goes after the volume of pick-up trucks.”

“Despite that the Ford F-150 is one hell of a vehicle. If you have that in a twin-cab version it is a great car. But that is Ford.”

“A BMW X5 M is still very much a BMW, but a pick-up by functionality because it is a utility vehicle that I suppose you would load sheep in Australia… is that what you would like to see from BMW? I don’t think so.”

The Mercedes pick-up is expected to be based on the Nissan Navara (likely our next Fontier model) and called the GLT Class. The GLT Class would range from work trucks, to more leisure oriented models. As for the BMW equivalent, well, if you were dreaming of tearing up some twisties, with supplies from a hardware store run in your BMW X-pickup, you'll have to keep dreaming.

I'm guessing we'll call it the Pick-M-Up?
